FYDP Fundraising Gig

We hope you’re having fun in the sun (or rain) this summer! There has been lots of exciting events going on at FYDP. The most recent one was our Fundraising gig at the Cockpit in Leeds City Centre.

Headlining were The Gecko, a band based in Berlin who are touring the UK at the moment   http://www.facebook.com/thegeckoband    There was also music from Lisa Marie Glover, and Traffic Wire Rock School. All funds raised went to FYDP.

What’s been going on at FYDP?

You can read all about recent activities at FYDP on our blog at http://fydp.org.uk/updates/   Here are some of the highlights….

In the past few months we have:

  • Created a community cafe and farm shop in partnership with Farsley Farfield Primary School. Over 80 local young people and adults volunteered their time to help paint and decorate the cafe. http://fydp.org.uk/about-fydp/be-involved/cafe-and-farm-shop/
  • Taken 10 local young people on a 1 week trip to Germany, where they learnt about the history of Berlin, and got to know a German youth group. http://fydp.org.uk/2011/04/18/trip-to-germany/
  • Renovated the Spin Radio building, to create a professional studio and control room, that can be used for running media sessions including radio broadcasting, production, video editing etc.people. http://fydp.org.uk/radio/
  • Created a mural outside the community cafe, which was painted by over 50 local people during a week of half term activities.
  • Broadcast 2 weeks of Spin Radio shows  attracting an average of 70 listeners per night. Over 10 people have been trained to present and produce radio shows, and lots of local people have come into the studio to be interviewed on air http://fydp.org.uk/radio/
  • Run the community cafe for over 12 weeks, with at least 150 people through the doors each week. Currently the cafe opens on 4 afternoons per week, providing a space for local people to enjoy a cup of coffee and some cake, as well as getting to know new people. Around 10 people volunteer for an afternoon a week to run the cafe, plus it has also been used for other community events. http://fydp.org.uk/about-fydp/be-involved/cafe-and-farm-shop/
  • Built an outdoor clay pizza ovenand used it to cook pizzas at summer events. Local volunteers and young people helped us for 3 days to build this. http://fydp.org.uk/2011/06/19/pizza-oven-day-2/
  • Run a series of 4 festival events, which were attended by over 1000 people. The Pizza Party and Outdoor Nosh up were hosted at the community cafe, and included free food and drinks at the cafe. http://fydp.org.uk/about-fydp/be-involved/farsley-festival-2011/

To continue this great work, we need your support….

  1. Money makes the world go round, and FYDP needs more funding. We really need more people like you who believe in our work to commit to giving a regular donation. You can download a form from ourwebsite or give a donation online at http://www.charitygiving.co.uk/fydp
  2. We need volunteers to help with running the cafe, and to get involved in other ways. If you are interested then contact us for more information.

Our plans for the future include:

  • The community cafe continuing, with young people being trained as volunteers
  • Spin Radio broadcasting regularly, and school groups taking media lessons in the studio
  • Continuing to work with local young people at thefriday youth club
  • Providing activities and learning opportunities for young people
  • Bringing people together at intergenerational events and the Farsley Festival
  • Providing mentoring and support wherever it’s needed

THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR ONGOING SUPPORT
